Dr Garry Moore

Dr. Garry Moore holds the degrees of Bachelor of Jurisprudence, Bachelor of Laws with Honours, Master of Laws and Doctor of Philosophy in Constitutional Law. He practised for many years as a Barrister-at-Law in virtually all Australia legal jurisdictions, including in the Australian High Court, and was for a number of years a tutor in law – in a part time capacity - at Melbourne’s Monash University. He also served during the 1990s as the President of the Board of a public hospital in Melbourne.

Dr. Moore has served as a Director of Boxing Australia since 2007, providing constitutional and legal advice both to its Board and its members, and has chaired numerous complaint and disciplinary hearings. He has successfully appeared for Boxing Australia, both in Switzerland and Australia, before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Since 2014, Dr. Moore has also served as Legal Advisor to the Oceania Boxing Confederation. During the last year, until recently, he served as acting Executive Director of the Confederation in the absence of the incumbent.


The Legal Counsel shall be responsible for: (A) reviewing the AIBA Disciplinary Code and the AIBA Procedural Rules in conjunction with the AIBA Headquarters and making recommendations for amendments to the Executive Committee; (B) reviewing all amendments to the present Statutes, AIBA Bylaws, AIBA Disciplinary Code and AIBA Procedural Rules and advise the Executive Committee in respect of same; (C) providing guidance to the AIBA Commissions on legal matters and on the application of the present Statutes, AIBA Bylaws, AIBA Disciplinary Code and AIBA Procedural Rules as required; and (D) assisting the AIBA Headquarters in all legal matters.
