AIBA Reform Committee members unveiled

AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu unveiled an innovative 11-strong Reform Committee on Thursday, which was approved by the Executive Committee, further cementing the commitment of the new AIBA to give the sport of boxing an inventive and fresh image as the 2007 Executive Committee meeting opened in Taipei, Taiwan.

The committee – made up of one chairman, six outside experts, four AIBA representatives and three associated members – will be responsible for drawing up objective evaluations on the current AIBA and boxing movement, understanding all the intentions of building the new AIBA and develop new recommendations on specific issues to reform AIBA and the sport.

The chairmanship will be held by IOC Executive Board member and IOC Marketing Commission chairman Mr. Gerhard Heiberg from Norway and he will be joined by:

  • Dr. Charles Butler (USA) AIBA Executive Committee member
  • Dr. Humbert Furgoni (FRA) AIBA Executive Committee member
  • Colonel Thabo Victor Mohapi (RSA) AIBA Youth Commission chairman
  • Mr. Essar Gabriel (FRA) International Olympic Committee advisor
  • Mr. André Gorgemans (BEL) Secretary General of the World Fed of Sporting Goods
  • Ms. Reid Preston Mizell (USA) CEO and President of Tula Communications
  • Mr. Terry Smith (WAL) Vice-Chairman of the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association
  • Dr. Claude Stricker (SUI) Exec Director of the Inter Academy of Sport Sciences
  • Dr. Piermarco Zen-Ruffinen (SUI) Lawyer and chief of research in Private Law at Neuchâtel University
  • Television member still be appointed

Associated members include: Dr. Bjorn Rosengren from Sweden, Romania’s Dr. Rudel Obreja and Mr. Robert Fasulo from USA.

The first Reform Committee meeting will be held from February 11-13 in Taipei, following the Executive Committee meeting.
