Boxing has pride of place in Opening Ceremony

Nine boxers were given the honour of being the flag bearer for their respective countries during the amazing opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China on Friday.

The four hour extravaganza proved to be an overwhelming hit with the 80,000 plus crowd in sweltering conditions and even more of a success with the flag bearers and athletes who eventually finished filing out into the stadium at 12.30 on Saturday morning.

The boxers who were the flag bearers for their country were: 

Jean de Dieu Soloniaina - Madagascar
Badou Jack - Gambia
Ronald Serugo - Uganda
Dilshod Makhmudov - Uzbekistan
Alexis Argüello - Nicaragua
McWilliams Arroyo Acevedo - Puerto Rico
Worapoj Petchkoom - Thailand
Manny Pacquiao - Philippines
Hastings Bwalya - Zambia

The boxing competition starts on Saturday at 13:30 with the 75kg and 81kg divisions.
