The International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu declared the Official Draw Ceremony for the Olympic Games boxing competition, which was held at the Asia Hotel on Friday morning, an "outstanding success".
"This is what the new AIBA is all about," he said. "Everything is transparent, everything is clear. As you can see by the feeling of content in this room, everybody is extremely pleased with how the draw was completed and now we look forward to a very exciting competition starting tomorrow."
The draw, conducted in front of a packed room full of IOC members, AIBA Executive Committee members, team delegations and media, saw all 283 boxers from 77 countries allocated into positions for the start of competition on Saturday.
AIBA Advisory Council members - all IOC members - conducted the draw of countries while AIBA Executive Committee members completed the draw of positions.
There were three surprise omissions prior to the draw with 2007 lightweight world champion Frankie Gavin (GBR), bantamweight Gary Russell (USA) and flyweight Molla Getachew Ambaw (ETH) all failing to make weight.
The first session of the boxing competition, which starts at 13:30, will open with the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions.
