Four countries - Canada, China, Kazakhstan and Russia - are in the running to host the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) inaugural Boxing Academy following the announcement of a shortlist on Monday.

The AIBA Boxing Academy Selection Committee of IOC member Sir Craig Reedie as chairman and members Andrew Ryan (ASOIF Director) and Claude Stricker (AISTS Director) announced the shortlist following an evaluation of the Request For Proposal files from member federations.

The city of Bécancour, in the province of Québec, is the proposed host in Canada, Sanya - the southernmost city in Hainan province - in China, Almaty in Kazakhstan and Podolsk in Russia. All four candidate cities will present their application to the AIBA Executive Committee during its extraordinary meeting which will be held on August 18, 2008 in Beijing, China where a final decision will be made.

One AIBA Boxing Academy will open initially in order to fully benefit from the experience of the first Academy before building a second Academy and/or further ones.

The AIBA Boxing Academy will comprise of a centre of excellence offering the best integrated educational and physical training programs in order to lead the development of boxing around the world. Areas of focus within the boxing family include athletes, coaches, referees and judges, ringside physicians, sport managers and administrators.

Académie de Boxe AIBA, Liste des candidats sélectionnés

Quatre pays - le Canada, la Chine, le Kazakhstan et la Russie - sont concurrents pour accueillir la première Académie de Boxe de l'AIBA, liste dévoilée lundi.

Sir Craig Feedie, Chaiman du Comité de Sélection AIBA des membres du CIO ainsi que les membres Andrew Ryan (Directeur de l'ASOIF) et Claude Stricker (Directeur de AISTS) ont rendu la liste publique après une évaluation des dossiers de candidature proposés par les fédérations membres.

Le Canada propose la ville de Bécancour, La Chine : Sanya, le Kazakhstan : Almaty et la Russie : Podolsk. Les quatre villes candidates vont soumettre leur dossier au Comité Exécutif de l'AIBA lors de sa réunion extraordinaire qui se tiendra le 18 août à Pékin en Chine durant laquelle la décision finale sera prise.

Une Académie de Boxe AIBA va s'ouvrir pour que la seconde et les suivantes puissent bénéficier de son expérience.

L'Académie de Boxe AIBA se composera d'un centre d'excellence offrant des meilleurs programmes d'entraînement et d'éducation physiques intégrés afin de guider le développement de la boxe dans le monde. Les athlètes, entraîneurs, juges et arbitres, médecins de rings, managers et administrateurs constitueront les points d'intérêts principaux parmi la grande famille de la boxe.
