AIBA delegation visits Armenia

Hot on the heels of the 1st AIBA President Cup in Taiwan and the 2008 Sport Accord, the AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu joined AIBA Executive Vice-President Mr. Gofur Arslonbek Rakhimov in a weekend visit of Armenia, concluding with a meeting with the Armenia President Mr. Serzh Sargsyan on Monday.

The purpose of the visit to the Armenian capital Yerevan was to meet with national representatives boxing authorities to discuss the development of boxing in the country.

Dr. Wu and Mr. Rakhimov  also meet with the President of the Armenia National Olympic Committee Mr. Gagik Tsarukyan and the Boxing Federation of Armenia President Mr. Hayk Harutyunyan during their four-day visit to discuss boxing's growing popularity in the region and witness first-hand the boxing infrastructure in the country.


"It was a pleasure to be here to see the sporting facilities and to discuss the possibility of boxing development in Armenia," Dr. Wu said. "It is important to see what AIBA can do for the country."

Since being elected at the end of 2006, the AIBA President has visited many federations and was the first AIBA President to visit Africa (in 2007) and Oceania when he attended the AIBA Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament in Apia, Samoa in April earlier this year.
