The 37 Olympic Games qualified boxers in action so far after two days of the 1st AIBA President Cup in Sinjhuang City, Taiwan have suffered contrasting results.

After eight out of 13 Olympic qualified boxers advanced with victories in the 57kg and 64kg divisions on the opening day - of which four were beaten by fellow Olympic qualified boxers - 11 out of 24 Olympic bound boxers advanced on day two of which only two were beaten by fellow Olympians.

The 48kg division saw three "Olympic bouts" with Birzhan Zhakypov (KAZ) beating Jafet Uutoni (NAM) 18:7 and Rafirjon Sultonov (UZB) stopping Jack Willie (PNG) within the distance RSC R2. While in the 51kg class, there was only one bout which saw two Olympians face off with Walid Cherif (TUN) beating Hungary's Norbert Kalucza 27:3.

Of the Olympic qualified boxers in the 54kg division, both Louis R. Bruno Julie (MRI) and Oscar Valdez (MEX) lost their opening bouts while Hoorshid Todjibayev (UZB) pipped Enkhbat Badar-Uugan (MGL) 17:13.

Of those going to the Olympics in the 60kg class, it was a disappointing start for Juluis M. Indongo (NAM), Jean de Dieu Solonianina (MAD) and Fransisco Vargas Pelaez (MEX) who all lost their opening bouts to non-Olympic competition while Saifeddine Nejmaoui (TUN), Merey Akshalov (KAZ) and Song-Guk Kim (PRK) all advanced.

The African contingent in the 69kg class struggled with Nickson Abaka (KEN),
Joseph Mulema (CMR) and Mejandjae Kasuto (NAM) all losing their opening bouts. Mulema was unlucky to lose on the judges decision after his bout with Emil Maharramov (AZE) finished 10:10. Meanwhile, Mahmudov Dilshod (UZB) and
Jung-Joo Kim (KOR) both advanced to the next round.

And in the final action of the day, two Olympic boxers were in action in the 81kg class with Aziz Ali (KEN) beating Chun-Ting Pan (TPE) 15:12 before Luis Gonzalez (VEN) lost to Anastasios Mperdesis (GRE) 19:14.

Many of the world's top boxers are participating in this event - a tournament paying homage to the AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu and his excellent reform of boxing since being elected in November 2006 - some using the tournament as a final hit-out prior to the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. A total of 126 boxers from 26 countries will compete across the 11 weight categories with the semifinals and finals to be held after Thursday's rest day on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Tuesday's action will see 24 bouts across six weight divisions including the 75kg and +91kg classes for the first time.
