On May 12, 2008 Dr. Wu, President of AIBA, received an honorary doctorate from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
This award was by decision of the Academic Council, in recognition of Dr. Wu's outstanding achievement in the development of Olympic Sports and Boxing; as well as his support for the Olympic Movement, and world wide promotion of Boxing. Also taking into consideration, is Dr. Wu's effective implementation to changes within AIBA, which successfully leads to the AIBA reform.

Presiding over the ceremony was Rector Prof. Dr. Agajan Abiyev, while over 300 students and professors, and officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sport joined in this special occasion.
