A total of 137 boxers from 27 countries have confirmed their participation in the 2nd AIBA Americas Olympic Qualification tournament which will be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala from April 25-20.
Nicaragua is expect to have the most competitors with 10 followed by Brazil and Colombia with nine and Puerto Rico with Guatemala with eight apiece.
The most populous weight division is expected to be the 64kg class with 20 entries, one more than the 60kg class while the 75kg and 57kg divisions are expected to have 17 and 15 boxers respectively.
The 2nd AIBA Americas Olympic Qualification tournament will offer 23 vacancies for the Beijing Olympic Games, concluding the AIBA qualifying process for the Olympic Games. Thirty-seven boxers from the Americas have qualified so far for Beijing with 14 at the AIBA World Championships Chicago 2007 and 23 at the 1st AIBA Americas Olympic Qualification tournament in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The top three finishers in the 48kg, 60kg, 64kg and 81kg, the finalists in the 51kg, 57kg, 69kg, 75kg and +91kg and the gold medallist in the 91kg class will all qualify for Beijing. There is no Olympic spot on offer in the 54kg class.
To date, Cuba has the most qualified boxers with nine followed by United States (8), Venezuela (5), Ecuador (3), Puerto Rico (3), Colombia (2), Dominican Repúblic (2), México (2), Brazil (1), Canada (1) and the Virgin islands (1).

Un total de 137 competidores de 27 países confirmaron su intervención en el segundo torneo preolímpico del boxeo americano, convocado del 25 al 30 próximos en Ciudad Guatemala.
El presidente de la Confederación Panamericana, Jorge Guzmán, informó que Nicaragua, con 10 atletas, aportó la mayor cifra de inscritos, seguida por Brasil y Colombia, ambos con nueve, y Puerto Rico y Guatemala, con ocho cada uno.
De acuerdo con el directivo, por divisiones la más concurrida será la de 64 kilos, con 20 hombres, uno más que la de 60, a la que siguen las de 75 (17) y 57 (15).
Once concursantes habrá en 81 y más de 91 kilogramos, 10 en 48 y 91, y nueve en 51.
El evento repartirá 23 plazas con las que concluirá el proceso en el continente, ya dotado de 37 (14 en el Campeonato Mundial de Chicago´07 y 23 en la eliminatoria de marzo en Trinidad y Tobago).
Los boletos serán tres en 48, 60, 64 y 81, dos en 51, 57, 69, 75 y más de 91, y uno en 91. No se peleará en 54 kilos, peso que ya completó las seis asignaciones para esta área.
Hasta el momento Cuba (9) es el país con más clasificados en la región, a la cabeza de un listado que completan Estados Unidos (8), Venezuela (5), Ecuador (3), Puerto Rico (3), Colombia (2), República Dominicana (2), México (2), Brasil (1), Canadá (1) e Islas Vírgenes (1).
