1st AIBA European Olympic Qualification Tournament - Two Georgia representatives receive AIBA suspension

01.03.2008

AIBA regretfully decided on Saturday to suspend two representatives of the Georgia Boxing Federation from participating in any AIBA sanctioned events following a report of shoplifting during the 1st AIBA European Olympic Qualification Tournament in Roseto Degli Abruzzi, Italy.

The two suspended representatives are boxer Mr. Beka Lobjanidze, who was reported by police in the case of shoplifting at a shopping centre in Roseto, and general Vladimer Akhalkatsi, who, as team leader, did not discipline his boxer which caused serious damage to the image of the sport of boxing. The AIBA EC Bureau carefully reviewed both cases and unanimously made these decisions.

The case has been handed to the AIBA Discipliniary Commission for a final decision on AIBA sanctions.
