R&Js and Supervisors sit exams at APB/WSB workshop

There was a great deal of discussion in the seminar room as the APB/WSB Supervisors and R&Js workshop continued today with the two final oral sessions before the written examination. The main topics were duties, authorities and rights of the Referees and Judges in a professional refereeing style and the APB Technical and Competition rules. The WSB professional style of referring will be continued in APB competitions. The Supervisors and R&Js conveyed in depth analysis of referring and judging mechanics and different scenarios of fouls and the rules that apply to them.

"Today's session demonstrated the passion that the R&Js and Supervisors have for the sport and their commitment for ensuring that the rules are fair, equitable and clearly understood by all participants. It is a challenging and important exercise for all to go through, and as a result all these participants will be better R&Js and Supervisors "AIBA Technical Delegate and WSB Supervisor Tom Virgets said. "This workshop is a proof that AIBA's mission is to govern boxing in all its forms. AIBA is making a tremendous step of moving towards unifying all the rules and regulations for all its competitions while keeping the safety of boxers in the forehand" he continued.

The 2-day oral sessions concluded this evening with written examinations; 100 multiple choice questions for the R&Js and 20 open questions for the Supervisors. The existing WSB Supervisors were exempt from the examination due to their two years experience in the league. 5-Star R&Js were also exempt from the written exam but went through a short oral examination.

Luiz Boselli, the Secretary of Technical & Rules Commission and one of the leading instructors stated: "This workshop is about turning the page in the referring in boxing. It is extremely important. We have here today the world's best R&Js preparing for a new era. This will be a new style referring and judging, boxing will be a real show, and an attractive and better competition."

The practical training and evaluations are scheduled on the 2 and 3 November. After passing the written and practical exams the officials will be certified as APB/WSB Supervisor and APB/WSB R&Js, for the period of time of two years. Graduation Ceremony will take place on the Saturday evening.
