A total of 235 athletes from 42 countries have arrived in the beautiful Italian village on the Adriatic Sea - Reseto Degli Abruzzi - in order to compete for 26 Olympic vacancies on offer at the 1st AIBA European Olympic Qualification Tournament which starts on Monday.
With 40 European boxers having already claimed tickets for Beijing at the first Olympic qualifier - the AIBA World Championships Chicago 2007 - the remaining total of Europe's quota of 51 has been split between its two continental qualification events in Italy and Greece.
Monday will see the 1st AIBA European Olympic qualifier start in the Palasport Remo Maggetti at 14.00, followed by the opening ceremony at 18.30 and the second session at 19.00. All boxers must pass a medical and weigh in before being eligible for the tournament draw which will take place at 10am.
The preliminary rounds will be held over two days before the quarterfinals on February 27. A rest day will take place on Thursday before the semifinals and finals on Friday and Saturday respectively.

One hundred and twenty eight boxers from 48 countries have qualified for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China to date following three out of 10 qualification tournaments - the AIBA World Championships Chicago 2007 and the 1st Africa and 1st Asia qualification tournaments held in January.
