AIBA President, Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu met with Ed Picson, Executive Director of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP), to discuss all things boxing at the President's offices in Taipei last week.
Dr Wu was keen to address several important issues and topics with Mr. Picson, which included boxing activities in Philippines, the campaigns against corruption in the sport and the eagerness of the Amateur Boxing Federation of the Philippines to be more involved in AIBA and the global boxing movement.
The Philippines secured one quota place for the London 2012 Olympic Games at last year's AIBA World Boxing Championships in Baku and the Southeast Asian country will now be seeking to claim its first ever Olympic gold medal this summer. The focus though will first be the Open National Championships and which boxers will then be selected to go and claim further places for the XXXth Olympiad at the upcoming Asian Olympic Qualifying Event in Astana, Kazakhstan.
It was a fruitful visit and they were both delighted to have held such positive and constructive talks. Dr Wu wished Mr Picson the very best of luck for the National Championships and they both looked forward to seeing each other again at the Olympic Games.
