AIBA President, paid a visit this Thursday 12 January to the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Suat Kiliç, in Ankara. He was accompanied by the President of the Turkish Boxing Federation, Mr. Eyup Gözgeç.
During a press conference, Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu stated: "Boxing is part of the fabric of the Turkish nation and has always been a leading light in our sport. Last year, Turkey organised the AIBA Women's Junior/Youth World Boxing Championships in Antalya before the hosting the European Championships in Ankara. The Turkish Boxing Federation is one of the most active in our family".
Afterwards an agreement was signed that confirms Trabzon as host city for the 2012 AIBA European Olympic Qualifying Event. The tournament will take place at the Hayri Gür Sports Hall from 13 to 22 April 2012.
"Unfortunately none of our boxers qualified for the Olympics following the AIBA World Boxing Championships held in Baku last year, but this qualifying event in Trabzon gives us a good opportunity to find our way back", declared Mr. Eyup Gözgeç. "Be ready to witness the best of our boxers. We want to see them in London for the 2012 Olympic Games".
