The third edition of the Golden Belt Youth and Junior Tournament ended in Portoviejo with the Ecuadorian boxers dominating finals' day whilst exciting prospects were crowned champions during the event.
18-year-old two-time Brazilian National Youth Champion Patrick Lourenco, who was bronze medallist at the National Elite Championships in October, claimed a gold medal following a magnificent performance. He was too strong for Ecuador's titleholder Danilo Fernandez in the semi-finals before defeating Peru's Isaac Herrera in the final.
La Romana Cup bronze medallist Darwin Perez won the first gold medal for the Dominican Republic after the 17-year-old beat Ecuador's William Guaman by accepted scores in the Flyweight class. Experienced Leonardo Carrillo secured the only Colombian podium top spot by winning the Bantamweight final against Ecuador's Xavier Dominguez 4:2.
The second Brazilian gold medal was won by 18-year-old National Elite Champion Joedison Teixeira, who is sure to be a great prospect for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He showcased amazing skills in the lightweight final as he overpowered Ecuador's Christian Fajardo to triumph.
Peru's best youth boxer, Panamerican Junior Championships quarter-finalist Renzo Davila defeated local favourite Jonathan Ortiz 9:6 in the Light Welterweight class. The first gold medal for the host nation was acquired by 18-year-old Panamerican Youth Championships bronze medallist Jeison Minda who stopped teammate Angel Barrios within the distance of their Welterweight final contest.
Marlon Delgado continued Ecuador's winning ways in the Light Heavyweight category while his compatriot Panamerican Youth Championships silver medallist Domingo Mina overwhelmed Brazil's National Elite Championships quarter-finalist Johnny Clevim Pereira in the Super Heavyweight final contest, winning comfortably 26:6.
In the junior event, the host nation secured an incredible nine gold medals in Portoviejo. Ecuador's newcomer Christian Garcia was brave against Dominican Republic's current 15-year-old Panamerican Junior Champion Elvis Rodriguez to win the contest 7:2.
Ecuador's Panamerican Junior Championships silver medallist Jean Caicedo defeated his compatriot Marco Vasquez 5:1 in the Light Bantamweight division whilst Ecuador's Panamerican Junior Champion Ludy Tenorio secured his third international tournament victory as he defended his throne in Portoviejo against Colombia's Lazaro Caceres.
Ariel Ruiz, who was silver medallist at the Ecuadorian Junior National Championships, outpointed his teammate Alex Flores and was another to defend his title. Panamerican Junior Champion Jonathan Irrizary won the only gold medal for Puerto Rico after beating Ecuador's Alejandro Ponce by large margin of points.
Dominican Republic's big boxing hope in the junior age group, 16-year-old Panamerican Junior Champion and AIBA Junior World Championships quarter-finalist Huascar Ramirez created the sensation by overwhelming Ecuador's Golden Belt Junior Tournament winner Marcio Rivas to take the victory.
