AIBA President pays tribute to Joe Frazier

08.11.2011
"Smokin" Joe Frazier passed away on 7 November at the age of 67 in Philadelphia, United States of America, after a short battle with liver cancer. Olympic champion, World Champion, the Heavyweight superstar will continue to shine forever in all boxing fans' hearts, a true champion.

On behalf of the global boxing family, the AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu stated: "On this sad day for the entire Boxing Family, I would like to express my profound gratitude for what Joe Frazier achieved for our sport. He was a graceful man, an amazing champion and will remain a true legend. The gold medal he won at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games with a broken thumb was just one of his many brave moments. He will remain, for most boxing fans, the toughest opponent the Great Muhammad Ali ever had to face. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed."
