Tommy Murphy elected as IABA President

Tommy Murphy with Katie Taylor.Mr Tommy Murphy was elected President of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) on Sunday 23 October 2011 at the Annual Congress held at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, County Donegal.


Murphy, a native of County Louth, polled 143 votes. Wexford's Nicky White, his only challenger, polled 109 votes in the IABA's Centenary year.


Murphy was appointed acting IABA President last year after the then President, Dominic O'Rourke, stood down to take up a position as Director of Boxing.


In his congratulatory letter to Mr Murphy, AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu said, "I am very happy that Ireland has such a leader to further enhance boxing programs in the country and I look very much forward to meeting with you in the near future."
