The last remaining 'AIBA Road to Baku' program member in the competition, Lithuania's Egidijus Kavaliauskas, qualified for the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games at the 16th AIBA World Boxing Championships in Azerbaijan's capital city Baku.

The 23-year-old Lithuanian has been involved with his national team since 2006 and had the experience to win competitive fights. To make the quote, he had to battle Ireland's 27-year-old multiple National Champion Roy Sheehan, already veteran of two AIBA World Championships.

After the first round of their welterweight contest, the results both boxers were drawn 2:2 but Kavaliauskas managed to outscore his opponent in the second to gain a slight advantage coming into the last round. Experienced Sheehan tried hard to make up his deficit but the Lithuanian boxer upped his work rate to close contest out and win 11:7.

Kavaliauskas had advanced to the quarter-final stage at the last edition of the AIBA World Championships in Milan and will now compete in his second Olympic Games following his participation in Beijing. The Kaunas-based boxer, coached by Jurijus Kolycevas, has only suffered one loss this year so has a good chance of leaving Baku with a medal, all that stands in his way is current European Champion Fred Evans of Wales.
