Fourteen more boxers kept their Olympic dreams alive after winning their opening bouts during the second day of the 1st AIBA African Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Algiers, Algeria on Thursday.

The bout of the day saw Egypt's Abdel Rahman Salah Oraby beat Samuel Kotey Neequaye of Ghana 28:21 in a superb battle of attrition and precision in their 64kg clash. Although Salah led for most of the bout, Kotey gave him a great run for his money before petering out in the final stages.

Egypt registered three victories from three bouts on Thursday to sit second on the team rankings with four wins from five. Hosts Algeria and Tunisia are the only countries with unbeaten records with five and four wins respectively.

Fourteen boxers had earlier advanced on the opening day on Wednesday.

Friday will see the preliminaries continue with 12 bouts covering the 48, 54 and 60kg classes.

The preliminary rounds meanwhile, will continue until two days of semifinals commence on January 27-28 followed by the bronze medal contests on January 29. The gold medal bouts will take place on January 31 after a rest day.
