The opening ceremony and the first day of action at the 1st AIBA African Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Algiers, Algeria saw 14 boxers advance in the preliminary round on Wednesday in the Harcha Hall. 
Day One Results

A total of 96 boxers from 21 countries are participating in the first of two qualifying tournaments in Africa - the second is to be held in Windhoek, Namibia from March 22-31 - with the crème de la crème of African boxing striving to secure one of the 29 Olympic spots up for grabs at each of the qualifying tournaments.

The opening ceremony at the Harcha Hall took place at 17.00 (local time) followed by the first 14 preliminary bouts. 

The preliminary rounds will take place over four days before the semifinals on January 27-28 and the bronze medal contests on January 29. The gold medal bouts will take place on January 31 after a rest day.
