With three boxers injured and one failing to make the weigh-in, only seven bouts will be contested for 5th places at International Convention Centre in Singapore today.
Ireland's Joe Ward, 2009 Junior World Champion and 2010 Youth World Champion at middleweight, has his arm in plaster after a hand injury that had been troubling him for some time flared up in the first round of his opening bout against Australia's Damien Hooper. An X-ray after the bout confirmed that Ward's hand was broken, ruling him out of today's 5th place match against Kazakhstan's Adilet Rakishev.
Greece's Alexios Zarntiasvili will also miss today's 5th place match in the super heavyweight category due to injury. Zanrtiasvili's picked up a standing eight count in the final round of his opener against Moldova's Daniil Svaresciuc. His abandon hands the 5th place to the Ukraine's Oleksandr Skoryi.
Germany's Thomas Vahrenholt, a bronze medallist in Baku, will miss his contest against Armenia's Hrayr Matevosyan due to a hand injury. Vahrenholt succumbed to the fiery Evaldas Petrauskas in his opening bout, taking a standing eight count in the final round.
Belarus's Vadzim Kirylenka was handed the 5th place in the light flyweight category early this morning when his opponent for today, Haziza Matusi from Rwanda, failed to turn up for the weigh-in at the Youth Olympic Village.
