A total of 306 boxers from 75 different countries are now registered for the 6th AIBA Women's World Championships, which will be held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from September 9-18.
The number of participants has increased by more than 50 per cent compared with the 2008 edition, which was held in Ningbo, China, even though the number of weight categories has since been reduced from 13 to 10.
Furthermore, the number of participating countries has increased by almost 80%, from 42 in 2008 to 75 for the 2010 edition.
Forty women boxers will be taking part in the tournament thanks to AIBA's "Road to Barbados" training camp, which pays the travel, accommodation and training costs for boxers from underprivileged countries and developing boxing nations to take part in the tournament and benefit from two weeks training by world-class coaches prior to the start of the tournament.
