Susa wins gold at Kazakhstan President's Cup (Shunya Seri)


Asian Games gold medal contender 26-year-old Katsuaki Susa won at bantamweight in Astana after defeating four great names at the second Republic of Kazakhstan President's Cup from June 28 to July 2.


Susa was born in Fukushima, Japan on the September 13, 1984 and he has been boxing under Yoshiyuki Tsushima's tutelage for many years now. His first big success was the gold medal at the 2005 Japanese National Championships at bantamweight. Susa took his second Japanese National title in 2007 and he was also a gold medalist at the 2009 Japanese National Championships among the bantamweight class boxers in Chiba.


At the President's Cup in Kazakhstan, the experienced Japanese boxer first defeated Benazir Bhutto Tournament winner Dang Yong of China by an undisputed score of 11:1 in the preliminary round.


Susa's second opponent was AIBA World Championships and Beijing Olympic Games quarterfinalist 23-year-old Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan. Susa beat this powerful opponent 4:1 securing himself at least a bronze medal.


New Kazakh National Champion Daniyar Tulegenov was Susa's third rival and the semifinal ended after a close and hectic bout at 4:3, enabling Susa to advance to the final.


For the gold medal Susa had to face Russian National Champion and Bocskai Memorial Tournament silver medalist Vislan Dalkhayev and after one of the best performances of his life, he won this fourth contest 4:2.
