Key decisions taken in joint European meeting

01.12.2007

A joint meeting between the Executive Committee members of the AIBA European Bureau and EABA was successfully held in Paris, France on Saturday where two key decisions were unanimously approved.

With 21 of the 23 eligible members participating, the President of the Boxing Federation of Russia General Evgeny Murov was elected as the acting President of EABA for the interim period until the date of launching the new AIBA European Confederation, which is expected to take place following the AIBA Executive Committee meeting in February, 2008.

The EABA Executive Committee also agreed to maintain the EABA HQ's office in Moscow.

The merging of two entities to create one Continental Confederation was approved at October's AIBA Extraordinary Congress in Chicago. The AIBA Executive Committee will decide on the best possible method of merging during its next meeting from February 15-16 in Busan, Korea.

During the meeting, the AIBA Executive Director Ho Kim delivered a message on behalf of the AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu, who said it was a pleasure to see European boxing united and working together and he guaranteed AIBA's full support in helping build a new era for boxing.

Mr. Kim also gave a presentation to the meeting on the progress of many issues currently in progress at the AIBA headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, including the implementation of the many reform items - new statutes, new AIBA logo - which were approved at the recently completed AIBA Extraordinary Congress in Chicago.

The next and final EABA meeting will take place in Moscow at the beginning of February.
