Representatives from Busan, the host city of the 2010 AIBA Congress and the 2011 AIBA World Championships, visited Baku during the AIBA Youth World Championships in order to see first-hand the preparations that are required for a major international boxing tournament.
With the AIBA Congress just around the corner, Deputy Director of the Sports Promotion Division of Busan Metropolitan City, Yong-Chui Cho, cited transportation and accommodation as the most important issues. "We have been checking all points from arrival at the airport to the venue. We have also been looking to find the right accommodation for guests," he said.
"We believe we can provide the best service and the most comfortable stay for all the participants during the Congress."
Offering a foretaste of what visitors to the city of Busan can expect at the Congress and next year's AIBA World Championships, he added "Busan is the fifth largest container port city in the world and with that we have many beaches around the city. We aim to become the marine capital of Korea and Asia. So people will be able to enjoy the marine atmosphere."
"We have also made a lot of effort to ensure that Busan is the main sport city as well.
"For the World Championships, we are looking in particular at the training and competition venues, as well as transportation and accommodation. We are also interested in the marketing and promotion.
"It's good to see a lot of the actual work that people do here, particularly the AIBA staff who are involved in the World Championships.
"I can see that there is a love of combat sports in Baku and we can see that in the energy and passion of the people. I think we can learn from this to raise the excitement in Busan.
