Historic moment for AIBA President with Olympic Museum unveiling

23.11.2007

AIBA President and IOC member Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu proudly unveiled his Olympic Tennis Centre and Olympic Museum in Xiamen, China on Friday, a project he has been working on for five years and is fully dedicated towards the Olympic Movement and its principles.

Sixty-one-year-old Dr. Wu, from Taiwan, was joined by IOC Vice President from Japan Mr. Chiharu Igaya, Mr. Sunny Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Taiwan, members of the AIBA Executive Committee and other dignitaries and friends for the opening ceremony for what is the first Olympic museum to be stationed in China and boasts historic Olympic footage and data, lecture rooms and a collection of Dr. Wu's own Olympic memorabilia.

"This is a very proud moment for me, to be here on this special occasion with my dear colleagues and friends" Dr. Wu said. "I wanted to share this historic moment with you all as I have never made such a personal investment such as this. This moment marks the realization of five years hard work, investment and devotion towards a project which will be a great source of education, inspiration and hope for generations to come.

"The IOC recognises the importance of such a facility and given its full endorsement and blessing while this facility illustrates my commitment to the Olympic Movement and the enduring passion of the people of Xiamen and China towards the most popular sporting event in the world."

Dr. Wu, who was elected as AIBA President in October 2006, and members of the AIBA Executive Committee made the trip down to Xiamen following the Good Luck Beijing boxing tournament, a six-day test event for the Beijing Olympic Games, which received the approval of the AIBA President in terms of preparation for next year's Olympic Games.
