In a call to protect boxers and officials from attempts to damage AIBA and the current administration, AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu sent out a letter last week alerting all AIBA National Member Federations, IOC members, presidents of International Sports Federations, presidents of National Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee to serious defamation issues affecting AIBA and the boxing family. He also encouraged everyone involved with the Olympic movement to denounce those who are at the root of the rumors that were printed in Sport Intern and that have been received in various email correspondences.
"Sport Intern [was used] as a mouth-piece for the propaganda [of AIBA's political opponents] and false accusations against AIBA and its leaders," Dr Wu said. These people are part of a group "who have lost their positions and influence within AIBA due to their unchangeable habits of manipulating people for their personal interests and welfare." Dr Wu is asking for support and commitment against Sport Intern and those hiding behind it and has asked for these people to be removed from the Olympic movement. He also encouraged any members of the Olympic family who wish to share information in this regard to contact AIBA in the utmost confidence.
The individuals' ill-intended activities are meant to create "controversy to divide [up] the boxing family," Dr Wu stated. "I am sure these activities will further be increased due to the forthcoming AIBA elections toward the end of the year," he said, alluding to the AIBA Congress in November which will vote on the AIBA presidency and Executive Committee.
