New PR & Communications Director for AIBA | 15.01.2010 | Meet Paul O'Neil, the new Director of PR & Communications for both AIBA and WSB. A public relations and media specialist with nine years of experience in international environments, Paul hopes to apply his skills to this new position after having moved up from the role of Senior Communications Manager at WSB.
After receiving his Postgraduate Diploma in Translating and Interpreting from the University of Bath in his home country, England, Paul used his multilingual communication skills in government and in the watch industry to handle press operations at major international sporting events before entering the sports federation world in Lausanne.
"My top priority is to align the communication strategies of both AIBA and the WSB," Paul said. "The promotion and launch of the World Series of Boxing will be a major task this year, but once established, the tournament can be used to leverage media coverage of AIBA tournaments and the general standing of AIBA on the international sports scene."
In order to achieve his goals for the future, Paul will expand the communication departments of AIBA and WSB to increase not only their media exposure but also that of the Federations and Olympic boxers.
"2010 is going to be a historic if not revolutionary year for boxing with five major AIBA events and the first-ever Youth Olympic Games," Paul said. "For the first time, boxing fans will also be able to follow the world's top boxers in the global team-based league that is the World Series of Boxing."
