Semifinal Schedule

Russia will feature nine times and Armenia seven as the semifinals of the AIBA World Junior Championships Yerevan 2009 take place on Friday in the Sport Concert Complex in Armenia starting at 14:00 local time (09:00 GMT).

Twenty six bouts across 13 weight categories will be held with the winners having the chance to compete for AIBA  World Junior Championships Yerevan 2009 honours on Saturday.

Russia tops the number of semifinalists with nine followed by the host country Armenia with seven, and Cuba and Uzbekistan with five. India, Kazakhstan and Lithuania have four representatives each in the semifinals while the Ukraine (three), Ecuador, Germany and Moldova (two each), and Australia, Georgia, Ireland, Israel and Belarus (one each) round out the number of countries represented in the penultimate stage in AIBA's premier tournament for boxers aged 15 and 16 years of age.

In the first semifinal, the 2009 Uzbekistan Junior National Champion Javlonbek Eshmatov (UZB) will take on 16-year-old Haryana-based boxer Sandeep (IND) who is the Indian Junior National Champion and quarterfinalist at the 2008 Children Of Asia Games. While he second semifinal will feature two of the favourites for the title - the 2008 European Schoolboy Champion and 2009 Russian Junior National Champion Magomedrashid Dzhabrailov up against Korun Soghomonyan, who is the 2009 Armenian Junior National Champion and 2008 European Schoolboy Championships quarterfinalistand who is coming off an incredible 13:1 over Cuba's Gianny Garcia. 

50kg
A mouthwatering clash between two of the favourites sees Uzbekistan two-time national junior champion Burgut Hodjiboyev (UZB) , who is coming off victory at the 2009 Heydar Aliyev Junior Tournament, and three hard fought victories in Yerevan against Maxim Molocov (MDA), Juan Medina (DOM) and Ray Ximenez JR. (USA), against 2008 European Schoolboy Championships champion Sergey Sobylinski (RUS). The winner of this semifinal is expected to be the hot favourite for gold.
The other semifinal sees Talgat Bertleuov (KAZ) up against Indian junior champion Namit Bahadur.

Two of the favourites in the 54kg division will face off in the first semifinal with the 2009 Panamerican Junior champion Yunior Ernesto Valdes Boleri (CUB), who is coming off an exciting 14:12 quarterfinal win against Bekzhan Amantayev-(KAZ), up against 2008 Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup quarterfinalistVikas Khatri (IND).
The second semifinal will see 2007 European Schoolboy Championships bronze medallist and Armenian national champ Jonik Tonoyan take on the surprise of the division Tautvydas Statkevicius (LTU).  A +2:2 quarterfinal win over Russia's Giorgy Manllkyan was a true test of character for Tonoyan and he is expected to easily advance to the finals.

60kg
With three of the favourites - Raul Sanchez (DOM), Manuel Rey Rojas (USA) and Alexander Malinin (RUS) - already out of the draw, the 60kg title is up for grabs with Barhayotjon Obidov (UZB), who eliminated Sanchez, taking on Ricardas Kuncaitis (Lithuania, LTU) in the first semifinal followed by Armenia's Artur Kajoyan, who defeated Malinin in the quarterfinals, up against Oleh Neklyudov (UKR), who beat Rojas in the quarters.

66kg
Two of the favourites in the welterweight class Dan Aharono (ISR) and Andrey Egorov (RUS) are strongly favoured to advance through to the finals with Aharono, a European Junior Championship silver medallist and 2007 European Schoolboy champion, taking on two-time Lithuanian junior champion Deividas Cekanauskas while Egorov is up against Carpatian Junior Cup silver medallist Petru Ceban (MDA).

75kg
A relatively open weight division with Oleg Korobka (UKR), who won the 2009 Carpatian Junior Cup in his home ring, up against 2008 Serikbay Tuleybayev Junior Memorial Tournament silver medallist Yerassyl Seifoldanov (KAZ) in the first semifinal followed by a fascinating match-up between Germany's Roman Fress, a 2008 European Schoolboy Championships quarterfinalist who has impressed in Yerevan with his defence, having conceded only one point in his two bouts to date, and the hot favourite for the division Idris Shakhmanov (RUS), who is the 2008 European Schoolboy champion and a 2009 Russian National Junior Championships bronze medallist.

+81kg
Another open division where all four candidates have impressed with their ability to score wilst proving they have very assured defensive skills. Victor Ialimov (MDA), the 2009 Carpatian Junior Cup champion who will take on Tomas Basinskas (LTU) in the first semifinal, has conceded the most points out of any of the four boxers when he beat Lamar Richards (USA) 8:4 in the quarterfinals. The most anyone else has conceded is two.  Gor Margaryan (ARM), who faces the mightily impressive Gasan Gimbatov who is a 2009 Russian Junior National Championships bronze medallist in the second semifinal, has registered the highest winning margin (13) when he beat Kazakhstan's Artyom Vassilenok 15:2 in the quarterfinals.


Session 12
48kg

It is a matter of who can stop Russia's Housein Baisanghorow in the light flyweight division. The 15-year-old Moscow-based boxer was a gold medallist at the 2008 European Schoolboy Championships, and is the hot favourite for the title. A tough draw has strengthened his credentials having beaten Cuba's Silva Yoshany in the quarterfinals (+7:7) and Azat Khachatryan (ARM) in the preliminaries (5:3) and now he faces Theo Krechlok (GER) in the semis. Krechlok, a Carpatian Junior Cup winner and 46kg quarterfinalist in the 2008 European Junior Championships, has shown excellent form having conceded only one point in his three bouts and stands a chance of causing an upset.
The other semifinal sees Bagdet Uaidayev (KAZ), who beat a favourite Gaurav Bidhuri (IND) 8:4 in the quarterfinals, take on 2009 Carpatian Junior Cup silver medallist Mikhail Charchikob (UKR).

Two of the favourites in the light bantamweight division Shiva Thapa (IND) and Robeisy Eloy Ramirez Carrazana (CUB) look destined to meet in the final with Thapa, a two-time national junior champion and 2008 Heydar Aliyev Junior Tournament champion, taking on the surprise of the division Ivan Baranchyk (BLR) while Ramirez Carrazana, the 2009 Panamerican Junior champion, is expected t face little difficulty in beating Yerbolat Seidalliyev (KAZ) in the first semifinal.


57kg
Having already guaranteed only Australia's second medal at AIBA Junior World Championships (Zac Dunn won Australia's first -  a 70kg bronze medal in 2007), Joseph Nicholls has the chance to claim the South Hemisphere nation's best result when he takes on Georgia's best junior boxer Aleko Chadashvili .  It is a tough assignment though with the 16-year-old two-time Georgian national junior champion coming off a bronze medal at the 2009 Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup.
The other semifinal also promises to be an exhilarating affair with two of the favourites going head-to-head. Both Arlen Lopez Cardoso (CUB) and  Dmitriy Kulakov (RUS) are coming off tough quarterfinals with Lopez Cardoso, the 2009 Panamerican junior champion and favourite for the title, beating Malik Nabiyev (KAZ) +4:4 while Kulakov overcame Edgaras Skurdelis (LTU) 2:1.


63kg
One of the toughest weight divisions in the competition sees three of the favoruites reach the semifinals. Samuel Saul Raul Rodriguez ( CUB),  a 2009 Panamerican Junior Championships silver medallist, has been ruthless so far in Yerevan and will be looking for revenge when he takes on Jeison Minda Borja (ECU) ,who beat Raul Rodriguez for the 2009 Panamerican Junior Championship tile.
The other semifinal features Russia's Magomed Abdulamagomedov (Russia, RUS) - a Russian Junior National Championships gold and silver medallist - up against local favourite Volodya Hayrapetyan (ARM).


70kg
Ireland's Joseph Ward will be looking to maintain his chance of becoming his country's third world champion (the other two being women's Katie Taylor and youth Ray Moylette) in the past eight months when the two-time Irish junior national champion, 2008 European Junior Championships' bronze medallist and 2009 Heydar Aliyev Junior Tournament champion takes on 2008 Serikbay Tuleybayev Junior Memorial Tournament winner Ravshanjon Abdunazarov (UZB) in what is expected to be a riveting contest. The other semifinal sees 2009 Panamerican Junior Championships silver medallist Jesus Miguel Len Hidalgo (CUB) take on Hayk Khachatryan (ARM)


80kg
The light heavyweight division is heavy in class with Ecuador's Italo Perea Castillo up against the favourite in the division Mark Martyshkin (RUS) - a 2009 Russian Junior National Championships ilver medallist. The second semifinal sees Mirzobek Hasanov (UZB), who claimed a silver medal at the 2009 Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup, face Armenia national junior champion Aleksan Nazanyan.
