The coach of the Turkey national team Malik Beylaroghlu has stated that his team of 13 boxers will be aiming for five medals during the AIBA World Junior Championships Yerevan 2009 in Armenia which starts on Saturday.
"Our team is in good shape both physically and spiritually", the Atlanta Olympics silver medallist said. "We are looking forward to claiming five medals and a good return during what we expect will be a very competitive AIBA World Junior Boxing Championships Yerevan 2009."
Turkey, who arrived on Friday with a full complement of boxers across the 13 weight categories who have already warmed up for the tournament with training sessions with Russia, the Ukraine and Bulgaria, is the ninth most successful nation at junior level (for boxers aged 15 and 16) having claimed 12 medals across the six previous editions, although the last medal won was in 2005. Russia is the most successful nation with 53 medals.
