AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu acknowledged the great organisational skills and expertise of the Boxing Federation of Russia (BFR) and presented BFR President General Evgeny Murov with an award on the final day of the AIBA World Cup Moscow 2008.

AIBA's end-of-year event finished on Sunday with Cuba collecting six gold medals, Russia three and Armenia and the Philippines one apiece each carrying a prize package of $10,000 apiece.

"This tournament was extraordinarily successfull and extremely well run," AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu told the audience in the Megasport Palace. "My deepest thanks goes to BFR President General Murov and his team who have done an excellent job. I have personally heard how happy the boxers are and from AIBA's point of view the tournament has been a great success."

With 88 of the world's top boxers competing over 11 weight categories, four days of brilliant boxing culminated in the finals on Sunday. In addition to the winner's prize, runner's up took home $5,000 and bronze medallists $2,500.

One of the highlights of the week was the AIBA Awards Ceremony and Forum which took place at the Crowne Plaza hotel on Friday where Badar-Uugan Enkhbat (MGL) and Katie Taylor (IRL) were named as the 2008 AIBA Best Male and Female Boxers of Year respectively. China's Li Qingsheng was named AIBA Referee and Judge of the Year, Cuba's Pedro Roque Otano AIBA Coach of the Year while Terry Smith (WAL) received a special recognition award for his performance as the head Technical Delegate at the 2008 Olympic Games. 

The next tournament on AIBA's calendar is the AIBA Junior World Championships due to be held on May 23-30.
