Parade of the best young boxing stars in the semifinals of the 1st AIBA Youth World Championships Guadalajara 2008, Mexico. Most of the hot favorites made their way to today's finals, where tonight 11 promising pugilists will be crowned as the heroes of boxing's next generation.


However, among the undedogs, Irishman Jamie Kavannagh came as the biggest surprise. At the end of an extremely tight and close bout in 64kg weight class, he knocked out the two time Czech National Senior Champion Zdenek Chladek 8:6 to score the biggest upset of the day.


The fans of the "Unidad Deportiva López Mateos" Gymnastic Complex enjoyed another thriller in the first semifinal of 51kg weight division. Leading for three rounds out of four wasn't enough for Bunyodbek Mashrapov (UZB) to beat Yuniel Robles (CUB). The brilliant third round saw the Cuban into the finals.


The 48kg, 60kg, 69kg, 81kg, and 91kg weight classes saw also keen contests, with Grigoriy Nikolaychuk (RUS), Raymond Moylett (IRL), Oscar Molina (MEX), Marten Magomedov (RUS), and Ivan Dychko (KAZ) beating Luis Miguel Diaz (DOM), Aliaksei Haletsich (BLR), David Joyce (IRL), Thomas McCarthy (IRL), and Aurel Manole (ROU), respectively. 
 
Nano Singh Thokchom (IND) had an apparent easy task vs Jeremy Beccu (FRA) in the 48kgs, Daniyar Yeleussiniv (KAZ) against Vage Sarukhanyan (RUS) in the 60kgs weight category, Rey Recio (CUB) against Dimitry Bivol (RUS) and Enrico Koelling (GER) vs Luis Arias (USA) in the 75kgs, Erislandy Savon (CUB) vs Marcin Siwi (POL) in the 91kgs, and also for Erik Brechlin (GER) and Joseph Dawejko (USA) opposed to Omar Ibanez (CUB) and Plevako Iegor (UKR) in the +91kgs division.


Cuba will be the most represented country in the finals with five boxers, followed by Russia with four. Other nine nations will have at least one boxer in today's bouts which will see a skill and passion packed tournament come to a close.
