An incredible 53 bouts took place in the "Unidad Deportiva López Mateos" on Sunday as the second day of the 1st AIBA Youth World Championships Guadalajara 2008 was completed with a further 53 boxers advancing to the final round of preliminaries on Tuesday.
For the second consecutive day, competition was intense inside the ring and was best remembered for an incredible 29-26 victory in the 48kg class by Jeremy Beccu of France over Cuba's Erwin Marks in the first bout of the day.
This was soon followed by a fascinating bout in the 69kg division between Bogdan Juratoni of Romania and Cuba's José Joel Martinez where the referee stopped the contest after Joel Martinez was knocked down three times with the score at 13-13.
It was a tough day for France despite Beccu's excellent result with Oualid Belaouara losing a tight contest, going down 12-11 to Adam Lopez of the United States. In total, three out of four French boxers in action on Sunday came out on the losing side.
Another 59 preliminary round bouts are in store for Monday with the 54kg, 57kg, 64kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg divisions in action in the busiest day of the championships.
