Remaining Men's Olympic Qualifying Quota Places announced

AIBA is pleased to inform all National Federations of the remaining number of Men's Olympic Qualifying Quota Places through each of the Continental Olympic Qualifying Events. Following the results of the AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011, a total of 146 quota places are still up for grabs across five continents, in accordance with the original number that was allocated to each. All Continental Olympic Qualifying Events will be held in between March and May. AIBA wishes the very best to all boxers in this last opportunity to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

AIBA's Seeding System is Standard Practice in International Sport

Baku, Azerbaijan, 28 September 2011 - AIBA objects to the insinuations contained in recent media reports that changes to the AIBA Technical and Competition Rules in relation to the seeding of boxers at the World Championships were introduced for any improper purpose. The insinuations are nothing more than a cheap shot and demonstrate unfamiliarity with the rules, structure and ethos of AIBA and AIBA competitions. AIBA advocates fair play and transparency in all of its competitions and would like to take this opportunity to explain the background and rationale for the current seeding system.

AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu has expressed his condolences and deepest sympathy on behalf of the AIBA family for the mourning of Mr. Pulo Pardede, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Federation in a heartfelt letter. There will be a service held at Cikini Hospital morgue from 23 May 2011 until 25 May 2011 followed by a Christian mass and his burial ceremony in Balige on Thursday, 26 May 2011.
