December 15, 2006 - The boxing competition in Doha Asian Games has produced various meaningful outcomes which greatly satisfied boxers, coaches, officials and more importantly the international Olympic families.
The 12 days competition, unlike any previous international competitions in boxing history, was successfully completed without having a single dispute. The draw for officials for each bout was conducted in full view of spectators and team members. With the open scoring system, all of the 181 bouts were judged with no political pressure or outside interference, and the athletes won only by themselves.
As the medals were equally distributed to 7 countries in 11 weight divisions, the message was so clear that this event gave the hopes and encouragements to all boxers from boxing developing countries to earn their medals in major international competitions including the Olympic Games in the future.
With the presence of the President of international Olympic Committee along with several IOC members, the competition was truly dedicated to bright future of a new leadership of President Ching-Kuo Wu who had kept his seats in the competition for entire 12 days to urge the transparent and fairness in all matches.
“I am so proud of all technical officials who followed the direction of new AIBA and the sport of boxing.” President Wu said. “I also congratulate for all athletes who perform their best under new clean and transparent environment. I was so touched and proud myself when some of officials from different countries expressed their great satisfactions.” He urged once more to all officials after the competition that, “AIBA will continue to reform our sport and will reach to the top of all sports again with your support.”
