Federated States of Micronesia join AIBA family as a Provisional Member

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is pleased to announce that the AIBA Executive Committee decided to provisionally grant the Boxing Federation of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSMBA) the AIBA membership until ratification by the 2014 AIBA Congress to take place in November in Jeju Island, Korea,. "I have the great pleasure to inform you that during its meeting held from July 15 to 18 in Istanbul, Turkey, the AIBA Executive Committee decided to provisionally grant your Federation the AIBA membership until ratification by the 2014 AIBA Congress," - stated the International Boxing Association President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in his letter to the President of the FSMBA Mr Erick B. Divinagracia. "I would like to sincerely welcome you within the AIBA Family. Congratulations!"

AIBA Invites to Take Part in an Extraordinary One-Time AOB/APB/WSB Ringside Doctors Certification Course

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has issued an invitation to attend an Extraordinary One-Time AOB/APB/WSB Ringside Doctors Certification Course which will take place across three different continents. The course will take place from August 20 to September 18 in America (Cuba), Asia/Oceania (AIBA Boxing Academy in Almaty Region, Kazakhstan), Europe (Assisi, Italy) and will be opened to current AIBA/Confederation Medical Commission Members, Current Medical Jury Members, Current WSB Ringside Doctors, recommended persons by NOCs and/or National Federations. The heavy schedules of the 3 AIBA programs (AOB, APB and WSB) will demand more Officials to efficiently manage all events, creating a need to produce additional qualified Ringside Doctors to officiate at the Competitions. All the Certified at this Course will gain a Licensed Ringside Doctor ID Card valid for AOB/WSB/APB Competitions as well as a permanent AIBA Ringside Doctor certificate.

AIBA Disciplinary Commission opens further proceedings on Mr Kucinoglu

On March 20, 2014 the AIBA Disciplinary Commission sanctioned former Vice President and Treasurer of the Polish Boxing Association, Mr Mustafa Kucinoglu, with a lifetime ban after he stabbed Polish R&J Mr Zbigniew Zagrodnik last February. However, as Mr Kucinoglu did not have a chance to take advantage of his right to be heard due to being in prison for over 3 months, he has claimed to have a possibility to defend himself. Accordingly, after his provisional release from prison in May 2014, he has applied for interim measures with the District Court of Lausanne, which recently ordered AIBA to provisionally lift the disciplinary sanctions imposed on him by its Disciplinary Commission in March 2014. Following the recent order, the AIBA Disciplinary Commission has decided to reconsider its decision in accordance with AIBA regulations and has provided Mr Mustafa Kucinoglu with the opportunity to make his submissions in respect of the charges. A new decision will be issued shortly.

AIBA corrects ill-informed comments of IOA Secretary General

AIBA would like to correct ill-informed comments made by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Secretary General Mr. Rajeev Mehta following the approval of Boxing India as provisional new AIBA member. AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President, Mr. Narayna Ramachandran, met in Lausanne to discuss issues related to boxing in India. AIBA received full support from the IOA with regards to the selection of the new AIBA member for India. Further to this agreement, AIBA immediately informed the IOA of the AIBA Executive Committee decision of 14 May to accept Boxing India as the new National Federation. This decision was simultaneously published on the AIBA website. The IOA recently confirmed receipt of such a letter and apologized towards AIBA for the misunderstanding created. AIBA wishes to continue working with the IOA and sincerely hopes that this matter has now been cleared and settled.

The AIBA Family mourns Anthony Villanueva

It is with very great sorrow that the International Boxing Association (AIBA) learned about the loss of Mr.Anthony Villanueva, the first Filipino Olympic Silver Medallist. Mr. Anthony Villanueva won the first ever Filipino Olympic Silver medal in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. "We all know that his passing will not only leave a void in the Boxing Family in the Philippines, but also in the hearts of all those who knew this hero around the world," stated AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in a condolences letter sent to the president of Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines Inc. Mr. Ricky P. Vargas. "I share your sadness in these painful moments and would like to send to your Boxing Association and also to his family, AIBA's affectionate support."

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is deeply saddened by the loss of a great Polish boxer, Mr. Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, who entered in the history of boxing as four times European Champion and European bronze medallist, twice Olympic bronze medallist and Olympic silver medallist. "In my capacity of President of the International Boxing Association, AIBA, and on behalf of the entire boxing family, I would like to express my most heartfelt condolences and my deepest sympathy for the mourning of a great Polish boxer, Mr Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, several times Olympic medallist and European Champion," stated AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in a condolences letter sent to the president of the Polish Boxing Association Mr. Zbigniew Gorski.

New Birth of National Boxing Federation in India

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) Executive Committee (EC) has approved the application of Boxing India (The Bout outside the Ring) as provisional new AIBA member for India until ratification by the AIBA Congress, following recommendations by the AIBA Evaluation Committee. This latest AIBA EC Decision was officially announced by AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in his letter to the President of the India Olympic Association, Mr Narayna Ramachandran.

Provisional Suspension of the Danish Boxing Association

In accordance with Art. 17 of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Statutes, the AIBA Executive Committee decided on May 13, 2014 to provisionally suspend the Danish Boxing Association due to a serious breach of Art. 6 of the AIBA Statutes and Rule 22 of the AOB Competition Rules at the National Championships held on April 10-11, 2014. AIBA is pleased to inform all National Federations of the remaining number of Men's Olympic Qualifying Quota Places through each of the Continental Olympic Qualifying Events. Following the results of the AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011, a total of 146 quota places are still up for grabs across five continents, in accordance with the original number that was allocated to each. All Continental Olympic Qualifying Events will be held in between March and May. AIBA wishes the very best to all boxers in this last opportunity to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
