Thursday’s morning session at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games saw AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu welcome the President of the Local Organising Committee, Carlos Nuzman, to Riocentro Pavilion 6. The session saw some of the most exciting bouts since the start of competition, and Mr Nuzman underlined his satisfaction with the boxing competition and its success so far.
“It’s wonderful, boxing is one of the great Olympic sports and we are very happy with the venue and the support of the International Federation. It is full of people in here and I think this will be one of our great successes,” he said.
A former Olympian with the Brazilian Volleyball Team in 1964, Mr Nuzman acknowledged the huge changes in the Games since he competed, but underlined the importance that the Olympic values remain intact.
“The spirit of the boxers is magnificent and I loved watching them in action. I think the removal of the headguards was a good decision and I’m looking forward to the rest of the competition.”
