AIBA Legends programme, honouring the personalities and talents that have blessed the sport over AIBA’s seven decades as world boxing’s governing body
The AIBA Legends programme was inaugurated as part of the organisation’s 70th anniversary celebrations, an opportunity to honour the personalities and talents that have blessed the sport of boxing during AIBA’s seven decades as world boxing’s governing body. Remembering these legends provides an opportunity not just to reflect on their remarkable achievements and the positive influence they had on sport, but to use their dedication, integrity and example to inspire future generations of boxers as they embark on their dreams of following in their idols’ footsteps.
Discover the AIBA Legends
On 20 December, at the AIBA gala dinner in Montreux, Switzerland celebrating 70 years of world boxing’s governing body, the first ever AIBA Legend Awards were presented to four boxers who left an indelible mark on the sport. The award has been created not just as a reminder of these athletes’ achievements, but to act as an inspiration to young boxers and a symbol of just how far dedication and application can take people, whatever they choose to do. Every true legend has the ability to inspire a new generation to take up a sport and to devote their lives to the pursuit of a dream just like their idols, and it is in their honour that the Legends Award was devised.
